The first Brilliner was built by J.G.Brill Co. in 1938 for Atlantic City & Shore Railroad Co. The formal order was placed in April 1938 and new car was delivered in August 1938. The boxiness of the Brilliner was evident, especially when compared with St.Louis Car Co. product, so two-tone green paint styling by Raymond Loewy was applied to the demonstrator, so it looked very attractive. In 1940 the first Brilliner was renumbered 6901 and it was repainted to black, cream and silver livery.
