In June 1954 the electorate passed a revision allowing Muni to use only one crew member on all single-end cars built after January 1, 1939. In September 1954 the Baby Tens were convered to one-man operation with 59 seats. The color of the front anticlimer was changed to black to silver soon after the conversion.
